This class will go over fundamental concepts of how memory and note taking techniques i
nform the consecutive interpreter’s tasks of focused listening, faithful recounting and accurate rendering of a speaker’s message. We will go over why, when, what and how to take notes. Finally, participants will get a treasure trove of know-hows to build up the note taking habits characteristic of profession
al consecutive interpreting via theory analysis and practical examples.

    Instructor Bio:
    Christopher Michael Fallas Ureña

    Christopher Michael Fallas Ureña has 20 years of experience as an interpreter, translator and editor of Romance and Scandinavian languages. He is a court certified Spanish interpreter for the state of Oregon. During his time as a staff interpreter for the Multnomah County Courthouse he worked intensively in the preparation of candidates for the oral component of the state exam for certified court interpreters.

    He worked as a medical interpreter in several Latin American countries, and led workshops on ethics, simultaneous and sight interpreting for court interpreters. When not in the garden he can be spotted listening to narrated chess games, or foraging for mushrooms and clams in the great coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest.
